6 dayslibcamera: pipeline: Rename pipelines to a shorter nameJulien Vuillaumier
The PipelineHandlerFactoryBase class has a name that is propagated to the PipelineHandler instance it creates. In present implementation, this name comes from the REGISTER_PIPELINE_HANDLER registration macro. It corresponds to the stringified name of the PipelineHandler derived class. Therefore, PipelineHandler factories and instances names can be quite long such as "PipelineHandlerRkISP1". A libcamera user may have to explicitly refer to a PipelineHandler name for configuration purpose: one usage of the name can be to define a pipeline handlers match list and their priorities. It is desired, for user convenience, to use a short name to designate a pipeline handler. Reusing the short pipeline names already defined in the meson option files is an existing and consistent way of naming pipelines. This change adds an explicit name parameter to the REGISTER_PIPELINE_HANDLER registration macro. That parameter is used to define the name of a pipeline handler factory, instead of the current pipeline handler class name. Each pipeline registration is updated accordingly. The short name assigned corresponds to the pipeline directory name in the source tree. It is consistent with pipelines names used in meson. Changing the pipeline name has an impact on the IPA modules: each module defines a IPAModuleInfo structure. This structure has a pipelineName member defining the pipeline handler name it shall match with. Therefore, each internal IPA module definition has to be changed to have its IPAModuleInfo pipelineName name updated with the short pipeline handler name. In addition to this pipelineName member, the IPAModuleInfo structure also has a name member, associated to the IPA module name. Having renamed the pipelines to a short name, the pipeline name and the IPA module names of the IPAModuleInfo structure are the same: for in-tree IPA, they correspond to the respective pipeline and IPA subdirectories in the source tree. However the IPA name could be different, for instance with a close source IPA implementation built out-of-tree. Thus, it makes sense to keep the IPA name in that structure, as the 2 definitions may not always be redundant. 12 dayslibcamera: Drop file name from header comment blocksLaurent Pinchart
Source files in libcamera start by a comment block header, which includes the file name and a one-line description of the file contents. While the latter is useful to get a quick overview of the file contents at a glance, the former is mostly a source of inconvenience. The name in the comments can easily get out of sync with the file name when files are renamed, and copy & paste during development have often lead to incorrect names being used to start with. Readers of the source code are expected to know which file they're looking it. Drop the file name from the header comment block. The change was generated with the following script: ---------------------------------------- dirs="include/libcamera src test utils" declare -rA patterns=( ['c']=' \* ' ['cpp']=' \* ' ['h']=' \* ' ['py']='# ' ['sh']='# ' ) for ext in ${!patterns[@]} ; do files=$(for dir in $dirs ; do find $dir -name "*.${ext}" ; done) pattern=${patterns[${ext}]} for file in $files ; do name=$(basename ${file}) sed -i "s/^\(${pattern}\)${name} - /\1/" "$file" done done ---------------------------------------- This misses several files that are out of sync with the comment block header. Register the identified device numbers with each camera as the SystemDevices property. This facilitates camera daemons or other systems to identify which devices are being managed by libcamera, and can prevent duplication of camera resources. Add a new helper function PipelineHandler::configurationFile() that returns the full path of a named configuration file. 2022-11-09libcamera: pipeline_handler: Return unique_ptr from generateConfiguration()Laurent Pinchart
The PipelineHandler::generateConfiguration() function allocates a CameraConfiguration instance and returns it. The ownership of the instance is transferred to the caller. This fixes a memory leak in one of the error return paths in the IPU3 pipeline handler. 2022-08-10libcamera: Allow concurrent use of cameras from same pipeline handlerLaurent Pinchart
libcamera implements a pipeline handler locking mechanism based on advisory locks on media devices, to prevent concurrent access to cameras from the same pipeline handler from different processes (this only works between multiple libcamera instances, as other processes won't use advisory locks on media devices). A side effect of the implementation prevents multiple cameras created by the same pipeline handler from being used concurrently. Fix this by turning the PipelineHandler lock() and unlock() functions into acquire() and release(), with a use count to replace the boolean lock flag. The Camera class is updated accordingly. As a consequence of this change, the IPU3 pipeline handler will fail to operate properly when the cameras it exposes are operated concurrently. The android.hardware.camera2.cts.MultiViewTest#testDualCameraPreview test fails as a result. This should be fixed in the IPU3 pipeline handler to implement mutual exclusion between cameras. The MediaDevice lock is meant to prevent concurrent usage of multiple cameras from the same pipeline handlers. As media devices are acquired by pipeline handlers, we can't have multiple pipeline handlers trying to lock the same media device. The recursive locking detection can thus be moved to the pipeline handler. 2021-09-02libcamera: Drop emitter object pointer from signal argumentsLaurent Pinchart
Many signals used in internal and public APIs carry the emitter pointer as a signal argument. This was done to allow slots connected to multiple signal instances to differentiate between emitters. While starting from a good intention of facilitating the implementation of slots, it turned out to be a bad API design as the signal isn't meant to know what it will be connected to, and thus shouldn't carry parameters that are solely meant to support a use case specific to the connected slot. These pointers turn out to be unused in all slots but one. In the only case where it is needed, it can be obtained by wrapping the slot in a lambda function when connecting the signal. IPAManager is changed accordingly to support these changes: - createIPA is a template function that takes an IPAProxy class, and always returns an IPAProxy - IPAManager no longer decides on isolation, and simply creates an IPAProxy instance while passing the isolation flag Consequently, the old IPAProxy classes (IPAProxyThread and IPAProxyLinux) are removed. Since pipeline registration is done with declaring static factory objects, there is a risk that pipeline factories will be constructed before libcamera facilities are ready. For example, logging in the constructor of a pipeline handler factory may cause a segfault if threading isn't ready yet. Avoid this issue by moving printing the registration of the pipeline handler to the camera manager. 2020-06-17libcamera: camera_manager: Introduce signals when a camera is added or removedUmang Jain
Emit 'cameraAdded' and 'cameraRemoved' from CameraManager to enable hotplug and hot-unplug support in application like QCam. To avoid use-after-free race between the CameraManager and the application, emit the 'cameraRemoved' with the shared_ptr version of <Camera *>. This requires to change the function signature of CameraManager::removeCamera() API. Also, until now, CameraManager::Private::addCamera() transfers the entire ownership of camera shared_ptr to CameraManager using std::move(). This patch changes the signature of Private::addCamera to accept pass-by-value camera parameter. It is done to make it clear from the caller point of view that the pointer within the caller will still be valid after this function returns. With this change in, we can emit the camera pointer via 'cameraAdded' signal without hitting a segfault.
