2024-05-14libcamera: pipeline: Rename pipelines to a shorter nameJulien Vuillaumier
The PipelineHandlerFactoryBase class has a name that is propagated to the PipelineHandler instance it creates. In present implementation, this name comes from the REGISTER_PIPELINE_HANDLER registration macro. It corresponds to the stringified name of the PipelineHandler derived class. Therefore, PipelineHandler factories and instances names can be quite long such as "PipelineHandlerRkISP1". A libcamera user may have to explicitly refer to a PipelineHandler name for configuration purpose: one usage of the name can be to define a pipeline handlers match list and their priorities. It is desired, for user convenience, to use a short name to designate a pipeline handler. Reusing the short pipeline names already defined in the meson option files is an existing and consistent way of naming pipelines. This change adds an explicit name parameter to the REGISTER_PIPELINE_HANDLER registration macro. That parameter is used to define the name of a pipeline handler factory, instead of the current pipeline handler class name. Each pipeline registration is updated accordingly. The short name assigned corresponds to the pipeline directory name in the source tree. It is consistent with pipelines names used in meson. Changing the pipeline name has an impact on the IPA modules: each module defines a IPAModuleInfo structure. This structure has a pipelineName member defining the pipeline handler name it shall match with. Therefore, each internal IPA module definition has to be changed to have its IPAModuleInfo pipelineName name updated with the short pipeline handler name. In addition to this pipelineName member, the IPAModuleInfo structure also has a name member, associated to the IPA module name. Having renamed the pipelines to a short name, the pipeline name and the IPA module names of the IPAModuleInfo structure are the same: for in-tree IPA, they correspond to the respective pipeline and IPA subdirectories in the source tree. However the IPA name could be different, for instance with a close source IPA implementation built out-of-tree. Thus, it makes sense to keep the IPA name in that structure, as the 2 definitions may not always be redundant. While the latter is useful to get a quick overview of the file contents at a glance, the former is mostly a source of inconvenience. The name in the comments can easily get out of sync with the file name when files are renamed, and copy & paste during development have often lead to incorrect names being used to start with. Readers of the source code are expected to know which file they're looking it. Drop the file name from the header comment blocks in all remaining locations that were not caught by the automated script as they are out of sync with the file name. Replace the usage of CameraConfiguration::transform with the newly introduced CameraConfiguration::orientation. Rework and rename the CameraSensor::validateTransform(transform) to CameraSensor::computeTransform(orientation), that given the desired image orientation computes the Transform that pipeline handlers should apply to the sensor to obtain it. Port all pipeline handlers to use the newly introduced function. This commit breaks existing applications as it removes the public CameraConfiguration::transform in favour of CameraConfiguration::orientation. Change the parameter type of `generateConfiguration()` from `const std::vector&` to `libcamera::Span`. A span is almost always preferable to a const vector ref because it does not force dynamic allocation when none are needed, and it allows any contiguous container to be used. A new overload is added that accepts an initializer list so that cam->generateConfiguration({ ... }) keeps working. There is no API break since a span can be constructed from a vector and the initializer list overload takes care of the initializer lists, but this change causes an ABI break. Currently each RkISP1 path (main and self) generate a configuration by bounding the sensor's resolution to their respective maximum output aspect ratio and size. Size maxResolution = maxResolution_.boundedToAspectRatio(resolution) .boundedTo(resolution); In the case of self path, whose maximum size is 1920x1920, the generated configuration could get assigned unusual sizes, as the result of the above operation. As an example, with the imx258 sensor whose resolution is 4208x3118, the resulting size for the Viewfinder use case is an unusual 1920x1423. The generateConfiguration() implementation in the Rockchip RkISP1 pipeline handler uses by default the self path (if available) for the Viewfinder and VideoRecording StreamRoles. The validate() implementation, at the contrary, prefers using the main path, when available, for all streams. As the self-path is limited in output resolution to 1920x1920, generating a configuration using the self path limits the maximum stream size to 1920x1920, while higher resolutions can be obtained by using the main path. Align the generateConfiguration() implementation to the validate() one by using the main path by default if available. 2023-02-09libcamera: Remove transform from V4L2SubdeviceFormatJacopo Mondi
Commit 6f6e1bf704fe ("libcamera: camera_sensor: Apply flips at setFormat()") extended the CameraSensor::setFormat() function to apply vertical/horizontal flips on the sensor based on the supplied Transform. To pass the Transform to the function the V4L2SubdeviceFormat structure has been augmented with a Transform member. However as the newly added Transform is not used at all in the V4L2Subdevice class, it should not be part of V4L2SubdeviceFormat. Fix that by removing the transform field from V4L2SubdeviceFormat and pass it as an explicit parameter to CameraSensor::setFormat(). 2022-11-25pipeline: rkisp1: Support raw Bayer capture at runtimeFlorian Sylvestre
Implement support for raw Bayer capture at runtime, from start() to stop(). Support of raw formats in the camera configuration is split to a subsequent change to ease review. In raw mode, the ISP is bypassed. There is no need to provide parameter buffers, and the ISP will not generate statistics. This requires multiple changes in the buffer handling: - The params and stats buffers don't need to be allocated, and the corresponding video nodes don't need to be started or stopped. - The IPA module fillParamsBuffer() operation must not be called in queueRequestDevice(). As a result, the IPA module thus doesn't emit the paramsBufferReady signal. The main and self path video buffers must thus be queued directly in queueRequestDevice(). - The tryCompleteRequest() function must not to wait until the params buffer has been dequeued. - When the frame buffer has been captured, the IPA module processStatsBuffer() operation must be called directly to fill request metadata. Unlike RkISP1Path::generateConfiguration(), the validate() function doesn't take the camera sensor resolution into account but only considers the absolute minimum and maximum sizes supported by the ISP to validate the stream size. Fix it by using the same logic as when generating the configuration. Instead of passing the sensor resolution to the validate() function, pass the CameraSensor pointer to prepare for subsequent changes that will require access to more camera sensor data. While at it, update the generateConfiguration() function similarly for the same reason. 2022-11-25pipeline: rkisp1: Query the driver for formatsPaul Elder
Query the driver for the output formats and sizes that it supports, instead of hardcoding them. This allows future-proofing for formats that are supported by some but not all versions of the driver. As the rkisp1 driver currently does not support VIDIOC_ENUM_FRAMESIZES, fallback to the hardcoded list of supported formats and framesizes. This feature will be added to the driver in parallel, though we cannot guarantee that users will have a new enough kernel for it. Currently, the Android HAL does not work on rkisp1-based devices because required FrameDurationLimits metadata is missing from the IPA implementation. 2022-11-23ipa: rkisp1: Fail hard on empty CameraSensorInfoJacopo Mondi
The RkISP1 pipeline and IPA module allows for the CameraSensorInfo to be empty, probably to accommodate some sensor used in a test platform that does not provide the mandatory libcamera requirements. As the \todo item in the IPA reports, there is a possibility that the received CameraSensorInfo is empty and it should be checked before accessing it, but currently such requirement is not enforced in the code. This allows to assume all the test platforms in use have now successfully moved their sensor driver to comply with the minimum requirements and provide a populated CameraSensorInfo to the IPA. As the safety check is not enforced, and as we don't want to allow faulty sensors to send empty CameraSensorInfo to the IPA, remove the \todo item in the IPA and fail hard in the pipeline handler if the sensor does not comply with libcamera requirements. 2022-11-23ipa: rkisp1: Use IPAConfig in IPA::configure()Jacopo Mondi
The RkISP1 implementation of IPA::configure() still uses the legacy interface where sensor controls (and eventually lens controls) are passed from the pipeline handler to the IPA in a map. Since the introduction of mojom-based IPA interface definition, it is possible to define custom data types and use them in the interface definition between the pipeline handler and the IPA. Align the RkISP1 IPA::configure() implementation with the one in the IPU3 IPA module by using a custom data type instead of relying on a map to pass controls to the IPA. The PipelineHandler::generateConfiguration() function allocates a CameraConfiguration instance and returns it. The ownership of the instance is transferred to the caller. This is a perfect match for a std::unique_ptr<>, which the Camera::generateConfiguration() function already returns. Update PipelineHandler::generateConfiguration() to match it. This fixes a memory leak in one of the error return paths in the IPU3 pipeline handler. While at it, update the Camera::generateConfiguration() function documentation to drop the sentence that describes the ownership transfer, as that is implied by usage of std::unique_ptr<>. 2022-10-10pipeline: rkisp1: Set bytesused before queuing parameters bufferLaurent Pinchart
The bytesused value for the parameters buffer is initialized to 0 and never set. The V4L2 API specification indicates that, for an output video device, the driver will set the bytesused value to the size of the plane in that case. The videobuf2 framework does so, but considers this as deprecated and prints a warning: [ 54.375534] use of bytesused == 0 is deprecated and will be removed in the future, [ 54.388026] use the actual size instead. Fix it by setting bytesused to the correct value before queuing the parameters buffer. 2022-08-30libcamera: pipeline: rkisp1: Implement color space supportLaurent Pinchart
Implement color space support in the rkisp1 pipeline handler, in the configuration generation, configuration validation and camera configuration. As all the processing related to the color space is performed in the part of the pipeline shared by all streams, a single color space must cover all stream configurations. This is enforced manually when generating the configuration, and with the validateColorSpaces() helper when validating it. Only the Y'CbCr encoding and quantization range are currently taken into account, and they are programmed through the V4L2 color space API. The primary colors chromaticities and the transfer function need to be configured in the ISP parameters buffer, and thus conveyed to the IPA, but the rkisp1 driver does not currently support tone mapping, so this will be done later. Currently the pipeline handler advertises controls handled by the IPA from a ControlInfoMap it manually constructs. This is wrong, as the IPA module is the component that knows what controls it supports. 2022-08-03libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Reintroduce toV4L2PixelFormat()Jacopo Mondi
This is a partial revert of commit 395d43d6d75b ("libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Drop toV4L2PixelFormat()") The function was removed because it incorrectly maps non-contiguous V4L2 format variants (ie V4L2_PIX_FMT_YUV420M) to the API version supported by the video device (singleplanar API and multiplanar API). It was decided at the time to remove the function and let its users call directly V4L2PixelFormat::fromPixelFormat() which accepts a 'multiplanar' flags. As we aim to associate multiple V4L2PixelFormat to a single libcamera format, the next patches will verify which of them is actually supported by the video device. For now, return the contiguous version unconditionally. Re-introduce V4L2VideoDevice::toV4L2PixelFormat() and convert all the V4L2PixelFormat::fromPixelFormat() users to use it. The V4L2 compatibility layer is the only outlier as it doesn't have a video device to poke, hence it still uses V4L2PixelFormat::fromPixelFormat(). Next patches will implement the device format matching logic and handle the non-contiguous plane issue in V4L2VideoDevice::toV4L2PixelFormat(). Denoise and Sharpness filters will be applied by RkISP1 during the demosaicing step. The denoise filter is responsible for removing noise from the image, while the sharpness filter will enhance its acutance. Add filter algorithm with denoise and sharpness values based on user controls. The rkisp1 hardware supports both a CSI-2 input and a parallel input, where the sensor is connected directly to the ISP. On RK3399, the CSI-2 receiver is internal, but on the i.MX8MP, the CSI-2 receiver is a separate IP core, connected to the parallel input of the ISP, and gets exposed to userspace as a V4L2 subdev. To prepare for this, handle an optional CSI-2 receiver subdev in the pipeline. Pass the path name of the YAML IPA tuning file to the IPA module. The file name is derived from the sensor name ("${sensor_name}.yaml"), with a fallback to "uncalibrated.yaml". The RkISP1Path::generateConfiguration() function limits the maximum resolution to the sensor resolution, to avoid upscaling. It however doesn't take the sensor aspect ratio into account, which leads to a maximum (and default) resolution of 1920x1920 when using the self path with a sensor that has a higher resolution. Fix it by constraining the minimum and maximum resolutions to match the sensor's aspect ratio. Hence, rename IPARkISP1::metadataReady() to IPARkISP1::prepareReady() to prevent the conflict. Since a queue of waiting Requests has been introduced, not all Requests queued to the PipelineHandler are immediately queued to the device. As a Camera can be stopped at any time, it is required to complete the waiting requests after the ones queued to the device had been completed. Introduce a pure virtual PipelineHandler::stopDevice() function to be implemented by pipeline handlers and make the PipelineHandler::stop() function call it before completing pending requests. The V4L2VideoDevice::toV4L2PixelFormat() function is incorrectly implemented, as it will pick a multi-planar format if the device supports the multi-planar API, even if only single-planar formats are supported. This currently works because the implementation calls V4L2PixelFormat::fromPixelFormat(), which ignores the multiplanar argument and always returns a single-planar format. Fixing this isn't trivial. As we don't need to support multi-planar V4L2 formats at this point, drop the function instead of pretending everything is fine, and call V4L2PixelFormat::fromPixelFormat() directly from pipeline handlers. As the single-planar case is the most common, set the multiplanar argument to false by default to avoid long lines. 2021-08-12libcamera: controls: Create ControlInfoMap with ControlIdMapJacopo Mondi
ControlInfoMap does not have a ControlId map associated, but rather creates one with the generateIdMap() function at creation time. As a consequence, when in the need to de-serialize a ControlInfoMap all the ControlId it contains are created by the deserializer instance, not being able to discern if the controls the ControlIdMap refers to are the global libcamera controls (and properties) or instances local to the V4L2 device that has first initialized the controls. As a consequence the ControlId stored in a de-serialized map will always be newly created entities, preventing lookup by ControlId reference on a de-serialized ControlInfoMap. In order to make it possible to use globally available ControlId instances whenever possible, create ControlInfoMap with a reference to an externally allocated ControlIdMap instead of generating one internally. As a consequence the class constructors take and additional argument, which might be not pleasant to type in, but enforces the concepts that ControlInfoMap should be created with controls part of the same id map.
