The maxVal variable in the computeInitialY function needs to be a uint64_t, otherwise the subsequent multiplications in the function can overflow on relatively high resolution images (when the counts in the regions go over 16 bits). 2023-02-09ipa: raspberrypi: Normalise region sums to 16-bitsNaushir Patuck
The VC4 ISP uses a pipeline bit-depth of 13-bits. The AGC algorithm needs to know this bit-depth when computing the Y value for the image. Instead of hardcoding the VC4 bit-depth in the AGC source code, normalise all region sums to 16-bits when filling the Statistics structure. AWB and ALSC are agnostic about pipeline depth, so do not need changing. 2023-02-09ipa: raspberrypi: Use the generic statistics structure in the algorithmsNaushir Patuck
Repurpose the StatisticsPtr type from being a shared_ptr<bcm2835_isp_stats> to shared_ptr<RPiController::Statistics>. This removes any hardware specific header files and structures from the algorithms source code. Add a new function in the Raspberry Pi IPA to populate the generic statistics structure from the values provided by the hardware in the bcm2835_isp_stats structure. Update the Lux, AWB, AGC, ALSC, Contrast, and Focus algorithms to use the generic statistics structure appropriately in their calculations. Additionally, remove references to any hardware specific headers and defines in these source files. 2022-11-29ipa: raspberrypi: agc: Fix digital gain calculation for manual modeNaushir Patuck
The digital gain calculation uses a total exposure value computed with the current AGC state. However, this is wrong in the case of manual shutter/gain controls, as the total exposure value used must be the value computed when the AGC sent the manual shutter/gain controls to the pipeline handler to action. To fix this, the IPA now adds the historical AgcStatus structure to the metadata (tagged with "agc.delayed_status"). This historical AgcStatus structure contains the total exposure value calculated when the AGC sent the manual shutter/gain controls to the pipeline handler. No existing Algorithm used the base pause(), resume() functions or the paused_ flag, nor is there a need for a generic pause API. Remove these. The AGC and AWB algorithms now have methods named disableAuto(), enableAuto() which better describe their functionality. When encountering errors, the Algorithm::read() function either uses LOG(Fatal) or throws exceptions from the boost property_tree functions. To prepare for replacing boost JSON parse with the YamlParser class, give the Algorithm::read() function the ability to return an error code, and propagate it all the way to the IPA module init() function. All algorithm classes return a hardcoded 0 value for now, subsequent commits will change that. 2021-02-05ipa: raspberrypi: Pass the maximum allowable shutter speed into the AGCNaushir Patuck
In order to provide an optimal split between shutter speed and gain, the AGC must know the maximum allowable shutter speed, as limited by the maximum frame duration (either application provided or the default). Add a new API function, SetMaxShutter, to the AgcAlgorithm class. The IPA provides the maximum shutter speed for AGC calculations. This applies to both the manual and auto AGC modes. AGC, when paused, sets the last exposure/gain it wrote to be its "fixed" values and will therefore continue to return them. When resumed, we clear them so that both will float again. This approach is better because AGC can be paused and we can subsequently change (for example) the exposure and the gain won't float again. Previously we required that the sensor absolutely reaches the target exposure, but this can fail if frame rates or analogue gains are limited. partly saturated images When parts of an image saturate then the image brightness no longer increases linearly with increased exposure/gain. Having calculated a linear gain value it's better then to try it, allowing for saturating regions, and if necessary increase the gain some more. We repeat this several times. SwitchMode When an application has specified fixed exposure time and/or gain they must be programmed into the sensor immediately, even before the sensor has been started. For this to happen they must be written into the image metadata when the SwitchMode method is invoked. We also make the default exposure/gain, when nothing has been set, customisable in the tuning file. Previously the calculation computed Y for each region before returning the weighted average, which "baked in" the over-importance of small statistics regions. The revised calculation will treat all pixels equally when the region weights are the same, making it easier to use. With the previous scheme, proper "average" metering was difficult to implement. We build libcamera with -Wno-unused-parameter and this doesn't cause much issue internally. However, it prevents catching unused parameters in inline functions defined in public headers. This can lead to compilation warnings for applications compiled without -Wno-unused-parameter. To catch those issues, remove -Wno-unused-parameter and fix all the related warnings with [[maybe_unused]]. mode changes This commit causes the AGC to recalculate its camera exposure/gain values when the camera mode changes. For example it's possible that the exposure profile could be changed by the application so the division between exposure time and analogue gain may be different. The other underlying reason (and which this commit accomplishes too) is that the sensor's line timing may change in a new mode, and because V4L2 drivers store a number of exposure _lines_, the resulting _time_ will "change under our feet". So we have to go through the process of recalculating the correct number of lines and writing this back to the sensor with every mode switch, regardless of anything else.
